YUDU SCREEN PRINTING SYSTEM: A Review

A GIFT IDEA
My idea of creativity is to use strawberry instead of grape jelly on my peanut butter sandwich, but I've got a couple of nieces that are super creative that this would be perfect for.   When the AS SEEN ON TV people picked this up, the little lady saw it first, and suggested it as a Christmas gift.  These girls are teenagers, and are always being very inventive with ways to express themselves.  With this YUDU SCREEN PRINTING gizmo, they will be able to create designs on their own shirts, and express themselves with whatever art work they want on almost any surface they want.

As I think about it, I imagine the YUDU would also be a great thing for a parent buy to provide innovative a€œtogethera€ time with a child.   There's got to be a ton of fun artistic and useful projects that parents would enjoy creating and working on with their children.

wanted to say the yudu ...

WHAT IT DOES
The YUDU SCREEN PRINTING SYSTEM allows you to create designs with artwork that you made yourself, or to use others that you really like.  This little printing system gives you the freedom to print all of the transferable designs that you want on most any surface you choose including tee shirts, posters, flyers, clothing and more with very little clean-up problems.  The wonders of technology!  Used to be you had to go to a printing shop to have any of this done, but not any more.  It will be interesting to see what my nieces do with this.

IS IT WORTH IT?
The YUDU SCREEN PRINTING MACHINE appears to come with all the supplies you need to start creating and  transferring designs.  Then, there's a whole list of extra stuff that they list that comes with it; in fact they value the extras at 0.   The machine will set you back .00 plus shipping, but if it provides a creative outlet for the young and young at heart, I think it's worth it.

Personal opinion — rather have spent more for a better system

The Yudu does work. It uses waterbased inks that if you set them properly (using heat like from an iron) should wash just fine. You may have trouble getting bright colors on dark fabrics because the inks tend to be somewhat translucent. The consumables for the Yudu are a lot more expensive than regular screen printing systems. The Yudu also does not lend itself well to mass production. You can use it for that, but you have to kind of wriggle around the platen design.

I have one and yes you can use other inks as well as emulsion and so on. It’s really amazing! Of course I love it. Check out this forum for the Yudu. There’s a lot of people on there that discuss alternatives, do’s and don’ts and so on. I strongly reccomend you check it out:

The Yudu screens will allow for an 11×14 design so you can print a design to span across multiple transparencies with out any problem. You can also use velum to burn your image into the screen if you have a printer that can print 11×17 sheets and you don’t want to fuss with piecing together your printed images. 8.5 x 11 velum works fine as well.

Also you can use standard water based screen printing inks with out any problems. We have been using Speedball Inks and Emulsion with the Yudu with out any problems.

You can find a lot of useful information about the Yudu at the unofficial Yudu Forums http://www.yuduforums.com/ .

Read all the fine print – they are going to ask for a credit card.

      Lets break this down:
      1 screen per color = $25 to $80 each
art work = $??? depends on your design and the company making the films.
Ink costs, flash dryer for multiple colors, oven to cure ink, chemicals to clean screens & squeegee, EPA license to use chemicals and disperse VOC’c into the air, paperwork to local fire dept, addition to home owners insurance, state and federal paper work for VOC’s. And many more items and expenses left out. $$$ learning to print through trail and error. Not to mention that “specific” shirt you want to copy most likely has a copy right that could put you in jail or at-least get you a fine that would buy you a wardrobe for the rest of your and 3 generations lives.

With that said, try to get a job with a local t-shirt printer, learn on their dime and find out what all is involved to operate and maintain a legal presents. Then if your still interested by all means buy the press and make shirts the world would pay you $30 each for.

      Good Luck!

Should I buy A YuDu screen printing Machine To print & sale shirts ?

    • [ In Control ]:

Should I invest on a Yudu (Screen Printing Machine)?
I’m a hands down artsy person and well I have been watching this infomercial on the Yudu for the past 30 minutes and I’m falling for it. I want to make my own T-shirts and my own designs. Now a days shirts are way too expensive and I think if I invest in this gadget here I would save a lot of money.
I really want to make an specific shirt since that shirt is 30 dollars at the store and I know I can buy a shirt for 5 bucks and Yudu it myself! So what do you think? Do you own a Yudu?

What is the actually printing size of the YUDU screen printing machine?
I heard about the YUDU today and I am thinking about getting one. I’m just wondering, what is the size of an image that one could make with this machine?

I know that it says that a person can print an image on a transparency from their computer printer, but is 8.5 inches by 11 inches the maximum size that I can create with this machine?

I know that that size is ideal for some shirts, but I actually want to use this machine to make stencils for artwork that I can put on art canvases and art paper for framing, and I need something larger than 8.5 in X 11 in.

    • JohnnyFVR:

Anyone used the YUDU screen printing thing?
I’d love to know the pros and cons of this thing. Is it a cheapy, meaning quality? It looks and feels like it’ll fall apart in a week. I don’t have one yet, just investigating a little.

    • Shallon:

Yes I have a Yudu and it works great. It doesn’t make screen printing any easier than traditional screen printing but it does wrap up all of the functions you need in a compact unit. So results will vary from individual and it may take some work for you to get the results you want. Since the Yudu is like traditional screen printing you do not have to buy their products which have a huge mark up on.

Before you get one you may want to check out this forum.
